Jim is a lifelong Michigander and longtime resident of the Sault St. Marie community. After graduating from high school in 1976, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served our country for six years. He cares deeply about our nation, and especially our Northern Michigan communities. Jim wants to go to Lansing to make sure the residents of the 37th District are well represented and supported. He knows what we value, and wants to protect our kids, families, seniors and beautiful natural resources.
Following his service to our nation, Jim began a long and fulfilling teaching career. After 25 years of working in Michigan’s public education system, Jim retired from Sault Area Public Schools, where he was a math and computer teacher. He knows how education works, and that is why Jim wants to go to Lansing to make sure our schools have what they need to prepare our students to succeed at the best jobs of the future – increased funding. And as a retiree, Jim knows how hard the retirement tax has hit Michigan seniors. As a legislator, Jim will work hard to have the new tax repealed.
Jim spends his free time hunting, fishing and generally enjoying the outdoors. He refers to himself as an “avid sportsman,” and belongs to Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, the Michigan United Conservation Club and the Sierra Club. Jim owns 110 acres of land, 70 of which are in the Wetland Restoration Program, and works hard to keep our natural resources clean and protected so that future generations will be able to enjoy them.
